Dr. Diane Blankenship is hanging up her teaching shoes at the end of May and is officially retiring after over 20 years of service to the Recreation and Park Management program at Frostburg State University. Her 20 years of experience in the profession helped her connect students with their passion to pursue professionally. She worked in Germany running recreation and outdoor recreation centers, managed pools, water fronts at camps, was a recreation therapist, District executive for the Boy Scouts and staff at South Run Recreation Center. Her stories spanned the world and her experiences helped inspire students. Her passion for the profession, her students and the program have left a mark on many students who are now professionals in the field making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Her happy place is in the classroom and in the field side-by-side with her students setting up programs such as the City of Frostburg’s Halloween Event and the Easter event. Diane is most passionate about the Robert A.Norr Presidential Merit Scholarship events that generations of students poured their heart and soul into to raise money each year to help a student reach graduation and pursue their passion. This is her legacy she leaves behind as she says, “I can walk away into retirement and know that a Recreation and Park Management student will always be taken care of with a scholarship.”
This final crowdfunding effort is to help increase the scholarship fund to better care for a student each year.
